This started my day on a good note – research by First Round Capital found that companies with female founders performed 63% better than all male teams. Yet, from 2011 to 2013, only 15% of companies receiving VC investments had a woman on the executive team.
At INmarket, I stressed the importance of girl empowerment, as I believe it to be the most impactful solution of our time to SOLVE all of the problems. I am leading a data driven company, so data speaks to me. And, this new data only further vindicates my belief.
The startup community must help female entrepreneurs break through the glass ceiling. New opportunities for women, from mentorships to resources, must be created. Going a step further, the culture itself needs to evolve.
But please remember – funding female founders, hiring more women engineers – it shouldn’t be done just to fill a quota or increase your chance of success or to jump on a bandwagon. It should be done because it’s the right thing to do.
Gender equality is a right.
